Charles McDaniel Teacher Scholarship

Merit-based Scholarship

Purpose

To recognize and reward outstanding Georgia college juniors and seniors seeking a teaching degree at a public college in Georgia. This program was established in honor and memory of Dr. Charles McDaniel, former State Superintendent of Schools.

Eligibility

  1. Be enrolled as a full-time student in a Georgia public college or university;
  2. Be classified as a junior or senior level college student and admitted to the department or college of education at the student's institution;
  3. Must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher;
  4. Be a graduate of a public high school in Georgia;
  5. Be a legal resident of Georgia 12 months prior to receiving aid;
  6. Be a U.S. citizen or national of the U.S. or have evidence from INS of eligible permanent resident alien status;
  7. Be in compliance with Selective Service registration requirements;
  8. Not be in default or owe a refund on a student financial aid program.

Value

Typically, three awards are made annually in the amount of $1,000 each. The scholarship is not renewable.

Application Procedure

  1. Applications may be obtained from the department or college of education of eligible institutions or you can download the application by clicking here.
  2. Each eligible institution is limited to nominating one student per year for this scholarship.
  3. The deadline date is July 15 for the proceeding academic year.
  4. Recipients are selected by Georgia Student Finance Commission from the pool of nominees.

Other Information

This scholarship is financed by private funds that are invested for this purpose. The number of awards made each year is dependent upon interest earnings.
