What is PAIS?
The Preliminary Aid Information System (PAIS) is designed to allow high school and college students to estimate student financial aid eligibility information through an easy to use online system.
By completing this worksheet, you will receive information about your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), or what the federal government says that your family should be able to pay toward your yearly college costs.
Eligibility for financial aid
Eligibility for financial aid is the amount that remains after the student's EFC is subtracted from the cost of attendance.
The cost of attendance is the amount that the school estimates you will need to attend for the academic year.
The cost of attendance includes the schools' tuition charge, campus-based fees, room and board, books, supplies, transportation, and personal expenses.
Please contact the financial aid office at the college or university you plan to attend to find out their specific cost of attendance.
What will this program do?
After answering a series of questions the program will give you an estimated Expected Family Contribution.
Remember, financial aid eligibility standards are set by the federal government, and often change.
This may change the estimate you are given, so always check with your schools Financial Aid Office to determine your EFC.
Students should not eliminate any school of interest as a result of this estimate.
Instead, discuss any financing concerns directly with college financial aid officials, who may provide you with more detailed information and options based on your personal needs.
